Those of us who bobble along a generation or two ahead of the
boomers are well accustomed by now to learning that some ordinary,
age-old human experience we have just passed through in our boring,
unquestioning way is now beginning to befall them and that they have
found it to be fraught with hitherto undisclosed meaning and, often,
injustice as well. It is one of our small consolations, I suppose,
that we shall all be dead and gone by the time this articulate,
protesting crowd reaches dental disorder and incontinence. For,
