Article: Fund managers' optimism takes a breather after stock market rally

BRITAIN'S top-rated fund managers' confidence in the stock market slipped last month, following the strong recent gains in equities, according to a survey by Citywire, the financial publishing and data group.

The poll reveals that Citywire's Stockmarket Confidence Index slipped by 9 per cent to 107.4. Fund managers' increased caution came after the FTSE100 broke through the 5,300 mark in July.

Since then the index of the UK's leading companies has reached 5,345.8, a rise of 11 per cent since the start of the year. The FTSE All Share index has posted a similar gain, to close last week at 2,677.3.
