MICHAEL CARRICK can consider himself one of the gilded generation
of young English players who are expected to reach full bloom at this
summer's World Cup in Germany.
But he and some of his Tottenham colleagues, who remain on the
fringes of Sven-Goran Eriksson's England squad, feeling more silver-
plated than golden, share a sense of fear that the game's glittering
prizes, including the World Cup, the Champions League and the
Premiership, may elude them.
