Peter Ostacchini meets me on the marble floors of the Belgravia lobby of his office. "I'm sorry about all this mess,'' he says as he passes behind a stout oak door, gesturing towards some "wet paint'' signs. "But we're having a bit of face-lift.''

Ostacchini is the deputy managing director of private bank Duncan Lawrie. While the building is going through a refurbishment, Duncan Lawrie itself is in transition - as are all private banks.
