Peter Ostacchini meets me on the marble floors of the Belgravia
lobby of his office. "I'm sorry about all this mess,'' he says as he
passes behind a stout oak door, gesturing towards some "wet paint''
signs. "But we're having a bit of face-lift.''
Ostacchini is the deputy managing director of private bank Duncan
Lawrie. While the building is going through a refurbishment, Duncan
Lawrie itself is in transition - as are all private banks.
For years, Duncan Lawrie has been better known among the literary
set than anywhere else. Nick Grant, the bank's former chairman became
friends with Ted Hughes, the late poet laureate, through a common
love of fly-fishing. From that relationship came a whole ...
