Article: Fill Empty Bowls with warmth

It is hard to imagine a charity event that is anticipated with all the anxiety and excitement of rock concert, but Empty Bowls is certainly one of them.

This event, now in its ninth year, raises money for area food pantries and soup kitchens by providing a hearty serving of soup from local restaurants served in a handmade, one-of-a-kind bowl. The line can wend through the parking lot.

Students, artists and art teachers across Milwaukee County work for weeks crafting unusual ceramic bowls. There are bowls in every conceivable shape and color.

Donors pay $20 for the bowl of their choice, which is filled with soup. They keep the bowls as a reminder that "someone's bowl is always empty."
