Soccer is a team sport, and Sweden plays a team game, but one
player is largely responsible for the Scandinavian team reaching the
1994 World Cup.
His name is Martin Dahlin, and his dangerous mixture of finesse
and power propelled Sweden through its World Cup qualifying matches
in 1992 and 1993.
Already considered one of the premier forwards in Europe, a
strong performance in the United States could establish Dahlin among
the world's elite players.
Dahlin scored seven goals in nine qualifying matches, but the
numbers do not fully convey his dominance in 1993, when he almost
single-handedly transformed lackluster Swedish performances into
