Despite all the information available on the internet these days,
Britain's Tourist Information Centres (TICs) are often still the
first place visitors contact if they want personal and reliable
advice. But how good is the service they offer? To find out, I rang
tourist offices in popular areas around the UK - and found some
serious shortcomings.
I was asking about suitable places for a family to stay in their
area, some ideas for days out and for details about any big events
taking place in the first week of August. To my disappointment,
instead of receiving useful, personal advice, I found the common
response to my questions was usually an offer to post brochures or
information packs or ...
