Hedge funds are viewed as the glamour toys of the investment world, curious devices not everyone understands beyond the notion that they are somehow "risky'' but still make millions of pounds of profit. They are also the playthings of billionaires, it seems, the tools by which tycoons shift vast sums of money to exotic offshore destinations such as Bermuda and the Cayman Islands.
