Article: Fort William skyline could lose old hotel

A Hotel which has graced the Fort William skyline for more than 70 years could be facing demolition, it emerged yesterday.

It is understood that the family-owned Grand Hotel in Gordon Square may come down to make way for a prestigious retail and hotel development.

The hotel was included in the sale of the 0.9-acre site of three neighbouring businesses which were put on the market at offers of over pounds1.5million earlier this year.

The three businesses - The Gift Box, McTavish's Kitchen and West Coast Leisure - were razed in a devastating fire in 2006.

The owners have consistently declined to make any comment on the future of the site or the proposed redevelopment.
