Sending red roses for Valentine's Day may be romantic, but it
won't win you any points for originality. There are several potted
plants which, while every bit as scented and seductive, will still be
thriving long after those roses have drooped or withered in the vase.
Your choice will also suggest you've given the occasion a little more
thought than nipping into the garage forecourt on your way home.
One of the most lovely plants to be given at this time of year is
a potted jasmine (Jasminum polyanthum), whose fragrant white flowers
are just beginning to emerge from tight pink buds.
