THE WORLD probably would become a better place if every person
over the age of 16 experienced a good performance of "La Boheme,"
the exquisitely beautiful opera composed by Giocomo Puccini in 1895-
'96. I was 16 when I first heard music from "La Boheme" -- and I can
honestly say that it changed my life.
Both the music and the romantic story line upon which it is based
are a sumptuous mix resembling the culinary combination of rich
bittersweet chocolate and super-sweetened Schlag (whipping cream).
"La Boheme," a marriage of laughter and tears, is a poignant paean
to young love and life itself.
Perhaps that offers a clue as to why it has been the most
performed opera by the San Francisco and ...
