La Plata senior Ross Hunsberger delivered a hit Friday night that
rang out as his plastic shoulder pads made contact with those of a
Patuxent player. The senior safety stopped the ball carrier as a
gang of tacklers descended on the play.
For all his effort, Hunsberger seemed to have gotten the worst of
it. His ankle was trapped beneath a pile of bodies as it crashed to
the ground.
While Hunsberger -- also La Plata's quarterback -- got his
ankle inspected and taped on the sideline, the Warriors offense was
on the field. Hunsberger had kept them close for 31/2 quarters
during a 27-21 SMAC loss to 18th-ranked Patuxent, but now he was
