Terry Murray was named head coach of the Philadelphia Flyers
yesterday, five months after he was fired from the same position
with the Washington Capitals.
The announcement was made in Philadelphia, where Murray was
introduced at a news conference by Flyers President Bobby Clarke, a
former teammate of Murray who took over the club operations last
week.
Murray, 43, replaces Terry Simpson, who was fired last month
after the Flyers went 35-39-10 and failed to make the playoffs for
the fifth straight season. Murray, who becomes the fourth Flyers
coach in 2 1/2 years, received a multiyear contract, although
specifics of the deal were not disclosed.
