Article: Street Redemption: New Orleans-area drivers begin to enjoy smoother rides on city streets

New Orleans drivers should begin to notice smoother rides soon with $225 million in repairs to major city streets beginning by November.

The Regional Planning Commission, Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development, Federal Highway Administration and the city's Department of Public Works have worked several months to prioritize and coordinate street repairs, said Walter Brooks, RPC executive director.

The Federal Highway Administration will cover 100 percent of an estimated $160 million in asphalt surface repairs to about 60 major streets covering 70 miles on the federal network. This work does not include neighborhood side streets.
