Barry Diller has two strikes against him in his quest to head a
giant media company. But don't count Diller out just yet.
The programming whiz who heads QVC Inc., the cable shopping
network, has now failed twice in his efforts to engineer a
mega-merger, first in a hostile bid for Paramount Communications
Inc. last fall and now in a friendly deal with CBS Inc.
What's more, Diller appears to have lost control of QVC now
that Comcast Corp. has popped up with an unsolicited $2.2 billion
bid for the company. Comcast's surprise offer Tuesday night led CBS
to toss aside its proposed merger with QVC.
But people on Wall Street say that Diller's not finished. They
believe that he may yet wind ...
