PATRICK J. HILLINGS
Former Member of Congress
Patrick J. Hillings, 71, a California Republican who
succeeded Richard M. Nixon in the House of Representatives when
Nixon won election to the U.S. Senate, died of cancer July 20 at
Eisenhower Memorial Hospital in Palm Desert, Calif.
After leaving Congress in 1958 to make an unsuccessful run for
election as attorney general of California, Mr. Hillings practiced
law in California and remained active in Republican Party affairs.
He was a confidant of Nixon, and in 1979, he was director of Ronald
Reagan's presidential campaign in Florida.
