There was a lot of hand clapping, foot stomping and hip shaking
going on at First and N streets SW as some Greenleaf Gardens
residents "went to church" during the opening concert of the sixth
season of the D.C. Summer Gospel Concert Series.
More than 200 people of all ages gathered for performances of
the Southern Gospel Singers, the Gospel Pearls and Jeffrey Waddy and
Friends. The groups did more than just sing - they took the audience
through the vast history of African American spiritual music.
The concerts, sponsored by the D.C. Department of Recreation and
Parks, enrich neighborhoods that often are overlooked as places for
