Virginia Senate candidate Oliver L. North's license to carry a
concealed weapon has been revoked by a state judge, who concluded
that North is "not of good character" because he lied to Congress
during the Iran-contra affair.
North declared today that the decision by Clarke County Circuit
Court Judge James L. Berry was politically motivated and accused
Berry of contradicting himself. Two years ago, Berry renewed North's
concealed-weapon permit without objection.
North obtained a permit for a concealed weapon in the
mid-1980s, when federal officials determined that his Iran-contra
fame had made him a potential target of terrorists, and he has
