Miriam K. Carliner, 73, a retired social science analyst who
was a family mediator and member of the D.C. Civilian Complaint
Review Board, died of stomach cancer Aug. 9 at her home in
Washington.
She retired in 1985 from the U.S. Department of Health and
Human Services, where as director of the women's action program she
assessed the effect of department programs on women. She also worked
as an analyst on a range of social service programs.
After she left HHS, she was a mediator for the Center for
Community Justice at D.C. Superior Court, the Divorce and Marital
Stress Clinic in Arlington and the Jewish Social Service Agency in
Rockville and was self-employed as a family mediator.
