`We communicate by eating."
So says the middle daughter of the long-widowed Mr. Chu,
Taipei's master chef and national treasure, who has held his edgy
little family together for almost 20 years with his cooking. But his
elaborate Sunday dinners have become torture for the three girls,
each straining for adult freedom but fearful of abandoning their
increasingly gruff dad.

dinners - the dazzling knife work, the steaming and sculpting -
make "Eat Drink Man Woman" a foodie film par excellence. Think Like
Water for Chinese.
