This may be difficult to swallow for some local inhabitants,
but the Washington Redskins and the New Orleans Saints were in
similar positions last winter. The Saints, who have never won a
playoff game, were actually a bit ahead of the Redskins, who have
won three Super Bowls, at the end of last season. The Saints
scrambled for a season-ending win to finish 8-8. The Redskins were
4-12.
Both teams had to retool, for their own sakes and because of the
salary cap. Both lost popular veterans to lack of money and age.
Both are still far from getting the widgets to fit correctly. Both
will be at the Superdome in New Orleans Sunday afternoon. Both are
0-1.
