The prices of television sets, videocassette recorders, compact
disc players and other consumer electronics are about to fall.
That's the likely result of a showdown looming in the local
consumer electronics market. On Oct. 28 Best Buy Co. of Minneapolis
will open eight locations in the area, bringing the first
substantial challenge to Circuit City Stores Inc., which dominates
the Washington market.
Based on experience in other cities, industry observers and
executives expect a fierce battle to erupt between the two companies
in which the weapon of choice will be price. But these observers
warned that by slashing prices, the two superstores will cut
dangerously close to the bone. And ...
