By day, he sentences juvenile delinquents, presides over
divorce trials and decides custody battles. But at night,
Alexandria's newest judge leaves the courthouse and meets the city's
youngsters in less-threatening surroundings - schools, churches and
community centers.
"Have Gavel, Will Travel," is the credo of Nolan B. Dawkins.
Dawkins, 46, recently became the second judge in the city's
bustling Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court. Besides ruling on
cases, he said, the job calls for him to venture out and be a role
model for youths and adults.
