Article: Good old days in Mount Joy

Some pleasant experiences of my childhood that come to mind around this season are the Easter egg hunts we participated in each year.

Decidedly pagan in origin, egg hunts probably don't fit well with my current interpretation of Baptist doctrine. However, I must admit that the excitement of finding those brightly colored relatives of Humpty Dumpty; the competition to win the prize for the most eggs found; and the prospect of gulping down these hardboiled delights with crackers were all very thrilling for a bunch of little kids with not much else to do.

Numerous area churches sponsored egg hunts, but the one at the AME church in Mount Joy was always the best. Although we lived in Lancaster, ...
