The Newstead Trio will perform Beethoven's acclaimed "Archduke"
Trio in B flat major at 8 tonight at a Twilight Concert at the
Pennsylvania Academy of Music, 42 N. Prince St.
The famous work, bearing the name of the Archduke Rudolph of
Austria, Beethoven's patron, friend and student, has been considered
a high point of all piano trio literature.
In the first performance of the work in 1811, Beethoven performed
as pianist, despite his increasing deafness.
The Newstead Trio, ensemble in residence at the academy, comes to
the concert on the heels of releasing its third CD, "Episodes," and
establishing itself as one of the foremost piano trios on the East
Coast.
