Article: New owners and vision for Black Forest Country Lodge

From an insider's vantage point, Bruce C. Shipe and Richard T. Whittaker have watched the local tourist industry rise and fall for more than 20 years.

The motel industry veterans have seen it ebb when gas prices soared or road construction snarled traffic. Now they're convinced it's going to flow.

Acting on that belief, they've purchased the Black Forest Country Lodge near Lincoln Highway East for $1.5 million and are contemplating spending $1 million to expand the facility.

"There are several things happening locally that we feel will really help" draw more visitors, Whittaker said.
