Article: Draft Option Voted Down by Coaches; Rule Affecting Basketball Underclassmen Could Be Rescinded

Less than a year after the National Collegiate Athletic Association membership approved a rule allowing freshman, sophomore or junior basketball players to regain eligibility after they enter the National Basketball Association draft, college coaches are ready to rescind it.

During a session of the National Association of Basketball Coaches' 1994 Issues Summit today, they said the rule creates uncertainty for their programs, opens the door for agents to talk to their players and generally is more trouble than it's worth. In a show of hands, all but two of the more than 100 coaches in the room said they opposed it.
