Article: Lancaster's whitest Christmas on record; 2nd major snowstorm of season spreads 10 inches of icing on holiday cake

The second storm since Thanksgiving dumped record snowfalls throughout the county on Wednesday, with more than 10 inches recorded in Lancaster, according to the National Weather Service.

The snow began late Tuesday evening and continued into the early morning hours of Christmas Day, then turned to rain for a few hours before changing back to snow, which ended Wednesday evening.

A white Christmas here is an almost mythical event, judging by snowfall records kept since 1926 at Millersville University. Lancaster saw 2 inches in 1935, 6 inches in 1961, 3 inches in 1962, 9 inches in 1966, followed by a half-inch in 1985 and again in 1993.
