Filling the stomachs of more than 2,400 people on New Year's Day requires months of preparation and organization and dozens of skilled kitchen hands.

That's why volunteer firefighters at Kinzer Fire Company are always thinking ahead.

More than 60 volunteers are in the midst of making pork and sauerkraut for the fire company's 23rd annual New Year's Day feast, which is expected to attract about 2,400 people.

One of the event's coordinators, firefighter John Beiler, said volunteers have been preparing food since October.
