Jeff Smoker is receiving help for a substance-abuse problem.
But what that substance is we do not know.
According to a statement prepared by his parents and released on
Sunday, the reason Smoker has been suspended from the football team
at Michigan State University since Oct. 24 is because he's battling a
problem with substance abuse.
Smoker, a junior from Manheim Central High School and the starting
quarterback for Michigan State, was suspended for what was termed a
violation of team rules.
According to the Smoker family's statement -- and confirmed by the
New Era from several sources close to Smoker -- the former high
school All-American came forward with the problem.
