Article: Hospital mortality rates drop; But administrators warn: Data can deceive

You have a better chance of pulling through some common hospital procedures and spending less time laid up in the hospital now than just a few years ago, according to a new report.

Pennsylvania Health Care Cost Containment Council (PHC4) studied mortality rates for 11 hospital procedures between 1999 and last year, which showed that mortality decreased in 10 of the 11 procedures.

The study also showed that, during the same three-year period, patients spent less time recovering in the hospital after nine of 12 procedures than in previous studies.
