When my mother died in 1977, somehow her sponge cake recipe got
lost and out of the family.
I have been trying to find the recipe, to no avail. Finally,
through an unexpected surprise, I was able to obtain the recipe. You
can just imagine how happy I was! I remember the story my mother told
me about her plain old-fashioned sponge cake. Right after my parents
were married, my father and mother left this area for Waynesboro. My
father wanted to study in a machine shop to learn to be a machinist.
Reluctantly, my mother went with him. They had never been out of this
area so this was a big move in their lives. They packed all their
