When Leah Davis had her second child in July 2001, she didn't
expect he'd come into this world with a cleft palate and lip.
"As soon as he was born, I knew something was wrong from the way
they acted," recalled Davis. "I don't know why I was so shocked."
But she acknowledged that she shouldn't have been so surprised:
Both she and her sister, Rose Cole, of Lancaster, were born with
cleft palates.
Davis knew that cleft palate and lip have hereditary factors. She
also knew Noah's birth defects would be repairable. And now, as
chairwoman of the Lancaster Cleft Palate Clinic's upcoming Smiling
Faces fund-raiser, she wants to make sure that the medical care and
services her family received will ...
