We know about the Pennsylvania Game Commission's proposed wildlife
management units (WMU).
We know about the proposed deer management assistance program
(DMAP).
We've already experienced antler restrictions.
Gary Alt, the game commission's chief deer biologist, has a plan
for deer in Pennsylvania.
The three programs listed above are aspects of that plan.
Ever since Alt took over the agency's deer management section in
1999, he's been talking about setting a course of action to bring
Pennsylvania's deer herd into balance with the carrying capacity of
the land and leveling the buck-to-doe ratio, which traditionally has
heavily favored does.
