The proposed tax hike for property owners in the Ephrata Area
School District may be cut by at least 20 percent, according to Roger
Brubaker, the district's business manager.
At the school board's work session Monday evening, a poll of the
board revealed that members were mostly likely to raise taxes by only
.80 mills, down from the originally proposed tax hike of 1 mill.
The district has a proposed a budget of about $40.6 million
budget, which includes $243,000 in state funding earmarked by Gov. Ed
Rendell. However, the district is not completely sure it will receive
all of those funds because the state has not yet approved its budget.
