Article: Coroner hopefuls battle for GOP nod; Deputy Ives faces Kirchner in primary

The Republican race for coroner will be a contest between a deputy coroner with four years' experience on the job and a former trauma surgeon with 38 years of experience in the field.

Dr. William Ives, who has served as deputy coroner for four years, faces Dr. G. Gary Kirchner, former chairman of the surgical department at Lancaster General Hospital, for the GOP nomination in Tuesday's primary.

Ives won the GOP endorsement over funeral director Charles McWilliams at the Republican endorsement convention on Feb. 20. McWilliams withdrew from the race after losing the endorsement, but about a month later, Kirchner filed the necessary paperwork with the county elections office and got his name ...
