Valerie Strauss's article on Marjo Talbott and the reformation
of Maret School gave an unjust representation of Peter Sturtevant
and the Maret School of the past {Metro, Oct. 24}.
While it is true that Mr. Sturtevant came from a more
"traditional" and perhaps old-fashioned training, I doubt he would
have wasted faculty time and parents' money calling a meeting to
discuss a pressing educational issue such as whether boys in the
middle school should be allowed to wear earrings. There would be no
Marjo Talbott there let alone a Maret School were it not for Peter
Sturtevant.
In 1974, when I entered Maret School as a seventh-grader and
Mr. Sturtevant began his 20-year tenure as headmaster, ...
