The merger of police departments serving Mount Joy and West
Donegal townships was approved Monday despite objections to cost and
service issues.
While officials in Mount Joy met and unanimously supported
formation of the Northwest Regional Lancaster Police Department,
residents and two of the five supervisors meeting in West Donegal
opposed the action.
"Residents of West Donegal are going to see an increase in cost
without a corresponding benefit of improved services," said resident
Earl Kean, a veteran of 20 years with the state police force. "If I'm
going to pay more money, I want something better for it."
