Article: Columbia relishes its underdog role

Columbia's players would make bad PR men. They're just not interested in building their own hype.

Asked about its chances in Section 3 this fall, the Crimson Tide played it low key. The players are willing to let the prognosticators focus on everyone else.

"We're the underdogs," lineman Dean Fisher said with a smile.

Word has spread to Columbia that most people are predicting L-S will win the crown. The Tide has filed that little fact away in its collective memory bank. Columbia will just go quietly about its business.

"I look for us to be competitive," coach Mike Burke said. "Whether we can win close games and big games remains to be seen."

No one has won more of those the past two years ...
