Lancaster County is suing five hotels for not paying controversial
taxes enacted in 2000 to help finance a convention center planned for
downtown Lancaster.
It is the first time the county has sued over nonpayment of the
tax, according to Commissioner Paul Thibault. Although lawsuits over
the room rental and hotel excise taxes are new, Thibault said the
process is not.
"It's the same thing that would happen if any other taxpayer was
in arrears," Thibault said Wednesday. "You can't pick and choose what
taxes you want to pay."
The targets of five separate lawsuits are: Relax Inn, 1492 Lititz
Pike; Keller Inn, 30 Keller Ave.; the Country Inn & Suites, 2260
