If you are one of America's five gazillion Civil War nuts, you
know that Christmas Day is not only Jesus' birthday but the release
date of "Cold Mountain," the film epic based on Charles Frazier's
meticulously crafted novel of a Civil War odyssey.
If you are not one of the five gazillion, you may wonder why
anyone would schedule the release of a movie on Christmas Day, when
devout American consumers are supposed to be exchanging gifts with
their families.
