"Dug Shand" and "Dug Stark" each got a vote last week. So did
simply "Doug." So did each of the Three Stooges; Michael J. Fox got
two.
Mickey Mouse, a perennial candidate, seems to have fallen from
favor among voters who take a pen with them behind the curtain. He
got only one vote for sheriff this year.
Write-in votes are a time-honored tradition of the American
electorate, and this month's election yielded more write-in votes -
8,776 - than any here in recent memory, officials said.
Write-ins were still being added to the totals this morning after
a review of the paper tapes in the voting machines that was completed
Friday.
