Federal agents in Los Angeles smashed a drug-smuggling ring,
arresting 14 suspects and seizing more than 5 1/2 tons of cocaine
with a street value of over $500 million, officials said. A Drug
Enforcement Administration official said the seizure crippled the
Mexican distribution and transportation arm of Colombia's Cali
cartel.
