Republicans Dick Shellenberger and Pete Shaub grabbed a
comfortable lead in the six-way race for Lancaster County
commissioner this morning, a New Era exit poll found.
But for the third seat, the Constitution Party's James N. Clymer
showed surprising strength and was running even with Democrat Molly
Henderson, the poll showed.
Given the large Republican voter registration edge here, the
support for Shaub, the only incumbent, and Shellenberger is not
surprising.
But the number of voters who turned out for Clymer early this
morning sets the stage for an unprecedented show of support - perhaps
even an upset victory - for a third-party candidate.
