At the beginning of the Lancaster-Lebanon League soccer season,
the one team that no one was talking about was Lancaster Mennonite.
Sure, everyone knew that LMH coach Vernon Rice would
characteristically have his guys ready to play, but no one thought
that they would ever have a shot at competing for a PIAA
championship.
Boy, were they wrong.
The Blazers (16-5-2) do have a shot and they will start their trek
toward that championship today at 5 p.m. when they face Scranton Prep
at Scranton Memorial Stadium in the opening round of the PIAA
playoffs.
Lancaster Mennonite started the season slowly, dropping a 2-0 non-
league game to Hempfield team that finished under .500, and the word
