The real work of deer hunting starts when the deer is down, and I
saw only part of that work when I visited the Manor Township home of
Jay, Bert and Rob Brenner on Wednesday.
The Brenners - Jay, the father; Roberta, aka Bert, the mother; and
Rob, the 13-year-old son - are hard-core hunters.
We spoke for about two of the three hours it took the trio to
butcher the two deer they took in Potter County earlier in the week.
Dragging the deer from the woods, skinning and quartering them
takes a lot of effort, too. To lighten the load, they share all
tasks; there are no slackers.
Jay works for R.R. Donnelley & Sons Co. and has hunted since he
