Coaches don't expect freshmen to contribute on the varsity level
because they know freshmen usually can't. The jump from junior high
to varsity is too great, the talent level is too strong, the
adjustment period is too long.
But the name McFadden at McCaskey might carry undue expectations
in basketball. After all, there was Wes McFadden back in the mid-
1970s, a 20-point scorer. And there were Tyron and Tyson McFadden
four seasons ago, important playmakers on McCaskey's first District 3
boys' championship team in 54 years.
Now there's Fashia McFadden, a 6-0 forward and center on
McCaskey's current girls' team. She is Wes McFadden's niece, and
