Nothing in Robert Randolph's background prepared him for the scene
Sunday night at the Grammy Awards.
Randolph, a pedal steel player who is considered one of music's
most exciting young guitarists, learned to play in his New Jersey
church and didn't even begin to seriously listen to secular music
until about three and a half years ago.
But there he was Sunday night, mingling with stars like Beyonce,
Prince, Dave Matthews, Steven Tyler, the guys from OutKast, Sheryl
Crow, Alison Krauss, George Clinton and Celine Dion.
Not only did he get to meet them, but the 26-year-old got to play
for them - and a national television audience.
