Article: Ephrata school district receives state funds; Officials able to cancel $9 million line of credit

Two days before 2003 wound down, Ephrata Area School District finally received more than $3 million in state funds, easing a financial crunch and allowing the district to cancel a $9 million line of credit.

During Monday's budget/finance committee meeting, district business manager Roger Brubaker told board members that the district received $3,154,962 on Dec. 30 -- one week after the resolution of a state budget dispute that had held up the funds.

In total, the district will receive $9,087,893 in state funds, a 3 percent increase from 2002-03. Most of the money -- $7,254,812 -- is earmarked for basic instruction, with the remaining $1,833,081 designated for special education.
