Article: Regular church attendance [Corrected 04/14/04]

In response to Jack Brubaker and Stephen M. Smeltz on politics and church attendance:

I wish Brubaker could read statistical charts as well as he writes his books and New Era columns. He says in one of his March 10 articles that about two-thirds of regular churchgoers vote Republican and only one-third vote Democratic. Yet the accompanying chart indicates that 44 percent of those who attend services every week plan to vote for a Democrat for president and only 56 percent support Bush.

Forty-four percent is way more than one-third and 56 percent is not two-thirds.

If weekly church attendance is not "regular," I don't know what is. Mainline churches do not customarily hold ...
